Cyprus state health services report normal operation in emergency departments
Charalambos Charilaou, spokesperson for the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY), stated that patient traffic in accident and emergency departments remains at typical seasonal levels. Despite reports of increased attendance, officials described the current situation as expected for the summer period, particularly in coastal cities due to tourism and population movement. Increased attendance noted on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays is attributed primarily to reduced staffing and specialist availability during weekends. Charilaou clarified that there is no indication of a surge in cases linked specifically to recent high temperatures or heatwaves. Public hospitals remain fully prepared to manage all patient arrivals and provide necessary medical care. The authorities have issued standard public health recommendations, including avoiding prolonged sun exposure and maintaining proper hydration during the summer months. The situation is being monitored, and officials emphasize there is no cause for public alarm.
