Police report multiple drunk driving incidents and traffic violations across Cyprus

Cyprus Police reported several serious traffic incidents involving intoxicated drivers and various violations. In Agia Napa, a 23-year-old driver attempting to evade a police check reversed at high speed, striking an officer and colliding with a parked car; the officer received medical treatment and was discharged, while the driver tested at 75µg of alcohol. In Paphos, a 29-year-old was arrested after police stopped his vehicle for dangerous driving, recording 97µg of alcohol. Additionally, in Xylofagou, a 36-year-old was detained for driving without a license or insurance with a blood alcohol level of 150µg. Nationwide, police checks resulted in 36 drivers being removed from the road, with 30 positive alcohol tests and six positive drug tests recorded. The 36-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear before the Famagusta District Court on July 6, 2026. Authorities continue to emphasize that alcohol consumption remains a primary cause of severe and fatal traffic collisions.
