Preparatory meetings continue for Cyprus issue ahead of UN envoy's visit
As of July 4, 2026, the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides are holding separate, regular meetings with United Nations representatives to discuss substantive issues regarding the Cyprus problem. These discussions serve as preparation for the next steps in the peace process. Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, the personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General, is expected to visit Brussels for consultations around the middle of July. Following these engagements, she will return to Cyprus for further discussions during the third ten-day period of the month. The meetings aim to facilitate the ongoing preparatory work necessary for the envoy's upcoming presence on the island. Both sides remain engaged with the UN team to coordinate future progress. No major breakthroughs have been announced at this stage, with the focus remaining on procedural and preparatory work.
