Cypriot Interior Minister speaks at 1974 memorial event in Serres

On Saturday, Cypriot Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou attended a memorial event in Serres, Greece, dedicated to those who died in the 1974 conflict. The ceremony, organized by the Municipality of Serres and local expatriate organizations, took place at the Square of the Fallen and Missing Warriors of 1974. During his address, Ioannou reaffirmed the Republic of Cyprus's stance against the ongoing division of the island and the presence of occupying forces. He highlighted that 52 years after the events, many refugees remain unable to return to their homes, and the issue of missing persons remains unresolved. Ioannou emphasized that the government seeks the liberation and reunification of Cyprus, calling for the removal of foreign troops and outdated guarantee systems. He reiterated that the official policy remains firm in rejecting the permanent division of the island. The Minister also acknowledged the support of international partners while emphasizing the resilience of the Cypriot people in their efforts to resolve the national issue.
