Conflicting reports over control of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk region

The Ukrainian General Staff has officially denied claims made by Russian officials that Moscow’s forces have captured the strategic city of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region. On Friday, the Kremlin reported to President Vladimir Putin that the city had been fully seized, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirming that Russian troops are in complete control. Conversely, Ukrainian military officials stated on Saturday that their forces continue to conduct defensive operations within the city and along its approaches. Kostiantynivka is considered a critical defensive node in the industrial Donetsk region, serving as a gateway toward the major cities of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk. Military analysts note that the city’s control is a key objective in Russia's broader offensive along the 1,000-kilometer front. Meanwhile, local authorities reported that a separate Russian bombardment in the city of Sumy killed at least three people, including injuries to children, after hitting a residential building and a store. The situation remains fluid as both sides maintain opposing assertions regarding the status of the front-line city.
