Wildfires reported across Greece over a 24-hour period

Over the last 24 hours, Greece recorded 60 agricultural and forest fires, with the Central Macedonia region facing the most severe conditions. Authorities designated Central Macedonia as a high-risk area (Category 4), where 16 fires broke out almost simultaneously after 12:30. Significant incidents occurred in Oreokastro, Koufalia, Leipsydrio, and Kristoni, leading to the deployment of 40 firefighters and aerial support in Oreokastro. Emergency 112 alerts were issued to residents in several areas, including Anthoupoli, Nea Kallikrateia, and Spathovouni, to evacuate or remain on alert. In the Attica region, fires in Aspropyrgos, Spata, and Acharnes were managed quickly under Category 3 risk conditions. Efforts also continued in Grevena and Embonas to control remaining outbreaks. The Investigative Division for Arson Crimes is currently investigating the causes of these incidents.
