Wildfires reported in Chalkidiki and Korinthia regions

Two separate wildfires broke out in Greece over the weekend. On Saturday, July 4, a fire in low vegetation occurred in Nea Kallikratia, Chalkidiki, threatening nearby homes. Authorities issued an evacuation order via 112 for the Ampelakia and Kipoupoli areas, prompting residents to move toward Nea Kallikratia. Emergency efforts involve 45 firefighters, 12 vehicles, two special forest units, volunteers, and aerial support from five aircraft and three helicopters. Additionally, a wildfire was reported on Friday, July 3, in Spathovouni, Korinthia, involving a forest and agricultural area. Residents in Korinthia received an alert via 112 to remain on standby. The response in Spathovouni includes 85 firefighters, 21 vehicles, three hiking units, and four aircraft alongside four helicopters. Both sites are being monitored by drones for thermal imaging, and fire investigative units are looking into the causes of the incidents.
