Olympiacos announces the signing of Zinedin Smajlovic
On Monday, July 6, Olympiacos officially announced the acquisition of 22-year-old central defender Zinedin Smajlovic from the Norwegian club Sandefjord. The player has signed a four-year contract with the Greek side. The transfer fee is reported to be 6.5 million euros, consisting of a 5 million euro base fee plus 1.5 million euros in potential bonuses, making it the most expensive sale in Sandefjord's history. Smajlovic, who is 1.91 meters tall and of Bosnian descent, was born in Stockholm on December 20, 2003. Throughout his career, he has played for clubs including Lecce, Lecco, Taby FK, and Sandvikens IF, recording 39 appearances with two goals and three assists for Sandefjord. He has joined the team's training camp in the Netherlands to work under manager Jose Luis Mendilibar. His addition completes the squad's core defensive rotation, which now includes two right-footed defenders, Retsos and Smajlovic, and two left-footed defenders, Pirola and Carmo.
