Omonia Nicosia former president Doros Serafeim dies at 82

Doros Serafeim, a prominent former president of Omonia Nicosia, passed away in the early hours of Sunday, July 5, 2026. Serafeim served as the club's president from 2000 to 2008 and returned to the position from 2013 to 2016 during a critical period of financial difficulty for the club. During his tenure, Omonia achieved significant successes, including two league titles in 2001 and 2003, one cup in 2005, and three super cups. Beyond his sports career, he was a member of the Central Committee of AKEL and participated in the Democratic Resistance against the 1974 coup. Omonia announced several measures to honor his memory, including flying the club flag at half-mast for three days, team members wearing black armbands, and observing a minute of silence. The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) and APOEL FC also issued statements expressing their condolences and acknowledging his long-standing contribution to Cypriot football. His funeral arrangements and the attendance of a board delegation were officially confirmed by his club.
