Wildfire reported in Mandra, Attica

On July 5, a wildfire broke out in a forest area at the Sfaka location near Oinoi, in the municipality of Mandra-Eidyllia, Attica. The fire started shortly before 15:30, reportedly originating near the old Athens-Thiva national road before spreading due to strong winds. Authorities issued a 112 emergency alert to local residents, and traffic on the old national road was suspended. As of the latest reports, firefighting efforts include 155 firefighters, 39 vehicles, 6 hiking units of the 1st EMODE, volunteers, and multiple water-dropping aircraft and helicopters. While one report mentioned an eyewitness claiming a cigarette was thrown from a vehicle, official sources have focused on the firefighting operation. The Region of Attica and local municipalities are providing heavy machinery and water tankers to assist in creating firebreaks. The mobile command center Olympus and drone units are on-site to coordinate the operation, with no residential areas currently reported as under direct threat.
