Teenager saved after cardiac arrest in Promachoi, Greece
In mid-June, a 16-year-old girl suffered a cardiac arrest at her home in the village of Promachoi, Almopia. Her sister alerted their parents, and her mother, who was trained by the organization Kids Save Lives, initiated CPR. Her father secured an automated external defibrillator (AED) available in the village, and another trained citizen arrived to assist. The AED was applied within two minutes, successfully restoring the girl's breathing. Ambulance services arrived 45 minutes later to transport her to the Aridea Health Center and the Edessa Hospital. She was subsequently transferred to an intensive care unit in Larissa and finally to the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center in Athens, where a latest-generation internal pacemaker-defibrillator was implanted. The girl returned home approximately two weeks later in good health.
