Anti-corruption authority investigates former member of parliament
The Independent Authority Against Corruption and the Audit Office are investigating a former member of the Cypriot parliament. The investigation concerns a non-profit organization founded and managed by the former MP, which allegedly received national and European funding. Authorities are examining potential charges of fraud and embezzlement. Appointed investigators in this case are former judge Sotiris Liasidis and lawyer Nicolas P. Constantinou, both of whom previously worked on the case involving Marinos Sizopoulos. While the Audit Office is finalizing a report on the matter, the Commissioner for Transparency, Charis Poyiatzis, stated that the Authority does not comment on details until the inquiry is officially concluded. This marks the third investigation into a former MP, following previous inquiries involving Marinos Sizopoulos and George Varnavas. Witnesses, including parliamentary and ministry staff, have been summoned for testimony, with the former MP expected to be the final individual questioned.
