Anti-Corruption Authority investigates third former member of parliament
The Cypriot Anti-Corruption Authority has launched an investigation into a third former member of parliament, as reported by the newspaper Politis. The probe concerns allegations of fraud and embezzlement of funds through a non-profit organization established by the former official, who acts as its sole administrator. Investigative procedures have begun with officials from the parliament and various ministries being summoned to testify. The former MP is expected to be the final witness to provide a statement. Former judge Sotiris Liasidis and lawyer Nicolas P. Constantinou have been appointed as the lead investigators for this case. These investigators previously handled the case involving former EDEK president Marinos Sizopoulos, recommending his prosecution. Additionally, Sotiris Liasidis is currently part of a team of criminal investigators examining allegations from the book 'State Mafia', which also touches upon matters related to former MP Giorgos Varnavas. This marks the third corruption-related inquiry targeting a former lawmaker following the investigations into Sizopoulos and Varnavas.
