Court proceedings in Tempi train disaster trial
The 17th hearing of the trial concerning the Tempi train disaster took place at the Gaiopolis facility in Larissa. During the session, the Three-Member Court of Appeals for Felonies appointed Alexandra Konstantinidou, Dimitrios Notas, and Ioannis Iliadis as public defense attorneys for Pavlos Kouzis. The defendant had requested state-funded legal representation citing financial hardship, as he could no longer afford his previous counsel. Defense attorney Ioannis Iliadis subsequently requested a brief recess to review the case file and consult with his client. Separately, the prosecutor has reserved judgment on several significant legal issues, including potential reclassification of charges from negligent homicide to homicide with possible intent. The prosecutor also delayed decisions on filing additional charges related to public exposure and explosion, as well as altering charges for two Hellenic Train officials, noting that such changes cannot occur until the evidentiary phase concludes. Requests to annul the indictment and dismiss the case based on Article 324 were proposed for rejection by the prosecution.
