Cyprus transitions to DVB-T2 digital television technology
Cyprus has migrated its terrestrial television network to the DVB-T2 standard managed by Hellas Sat, causing technical difficulties for many viewers. On the first day of the transition, approximately 1,500 reports of reception issues were recorded, though these numbers have since decreased. The Department of Electronic Communications states that users must rescan for channels, and those with devices incompatible with DVB-T2 must purchase an external decoder. Hellas Sat technician Giannis Artemiou attributed remaining problems to poor installation quality, old wiring, or specific region settings on devices, particularly those imported from Greece. Authorities confirmed that some imported televisions require a change of regional settings in their software to allow for automatic tuning. To assist the public, Hellas Sat has set up a support line at 22000737, which operates daily until 21:00. Although high call volumes have caused delays, the company has committed to contacting all callers who were not immediately assisted. Officials ruled out atmospheric interference from external regions as a cause, noting that the situation is gradually stabilizing through ongoing technical support.
