Cyprus transitions to DVB-T2 digital television

The Cyprus Department of Electronic Communications has transitioned its terrestrial digital television network to the DVB-T2 standard via the Hellas Sat provider, following the expiration of the previous provider Velister's license. This shift aims to upgrade national broadcasting to high-definition (HD) quality. Authorities state a three-month parallel broadcasting period and an information campaign were conducted prior to the July 1st switch. Users experiencing signal issues are advised to retune their televisions. Those with older devices incompatible with DVB-T2 must acquire an external decoder. The Department noted that some decoders imported from Greece may require manual regional setting adjustments to function correctly. While officials monitor the situation, there have been public reports of technical difficulties and complaints regarding service providers. The Deputy Ministry of Innovation remains in contact with Hellas Sat to ensure full restoration of services.
