Duty-free tobacco products seized from residence in Limassol
On July 5, 2026, Limassol customs authorities confiscated a quantity of tobacco products from the residence of a 52-year-old Syrian man. The operation was initiated following information provided by the police drug squad. Seized items included nine cartons of 200 cigarettes each, six packets of 20 cigarettes each, 500 grams of hookah tobacco, and 250 grams of rolling tobacco. Officials determined the products were untaxed as they lacked mandatory health warning labels in Greek and Turkish, as well as required security and traceability codes. The suspect was arrested for immediate offenses related to the possession of these goods. Following the seizure, the suspect reached an out-of-court settlement for the case. He was released after paying a fine of €1,000. All confiscated products have been slated for mandatory destruction.
