Greek fighter jets to remain stationed at Andreas Papandreou Airbase in Paphos
Four Greek fighter jets currently stationed at the Andreas Papandreou Airbase in Paphos will remain in Cyprus indefinitely. The aircraft are deployed to monitor and protect the Nicosia Flight Information Region from potential air threats. Cypriot Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas confirmed that there are no changes to the deployment strategy, noting that the situation is reviewed daily. While the current presence remains, the Minister stated that military assets, including aircraft and ships, will be adjusted based on evolving security conditions without implying a complete withdrawal. According to reports from Philenews, the current jets are expected to be rotated with a different type of aircraft from the Greek Air Force. Additionally, the frigate Elli, currently in Cypriot territorial waters, is scheduled for rotation to allow for crew rest. Local residents and tourists have been documenting the frequent training flights near the airbase.
