Minister of Justice receives distress text from woman facing domestic violence
During a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, Minister of Justice Costas Fytiris disclosed that he received a text message from a woman claiming her life was at risk due to her violent ex-husband. The Minister stated he immediately forwarded the information to the Police for action. Police spokesperson Byron Byronos confirmed the incident, noting that the case has already been investigated and is currently before the court. The revelation occurred amidst an emergency meeting regarding gender-based violence, following a recent attempted femicide in Limassol. While some reports suggested the incident happened this Monday, police indicate the legal proceedings are already underway. Authorities declined to provide further details regarding the ongoing judicial process. The government has emphasized that the prevention of gender-based violence remains a priority for the Ministry.
