Cyprus hosts the Woman Ambassador for a Day program
On June 24, Cyprus commemorated the International Day of Women in Diplomacy by hosting the 'Woman Ambassador for a Day' program in Nicosia. Coordinated by Hungarian Ambassador Dr. Krisztina Lakos, the initiative provided fourteen young women with the opportunity to shadow female ambassadors through their daily professional activities, including meetings and discussions. The program concluded with a reception at the Presidential Palace hosted by First Lady Philippa Karsera Christodoulides. The event was held to honor the participating students, female ambassadors serving in Cyprus, and female commissioners. The initiative reflects ongoing discussions regarding gender representation in diplomacy, noting that historical imbalances persist despite progress since the year 2000. Reference was made to Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis, the first and currently the only woman to have served as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the history of the Republic of Cyprus.
