Pedro Martinez appointed as new Real Madrid head coach

Real Madrid officially announced the appointment of 65-year-old Pedro Martinez as their new head coach on July 6, 2026. He succeeds Sergio Scariolo, who recently stepped down from the position. Martinez has signed a three-year contract with an annual salary exceeding one million euros. To finalize the deal, Real Madrid paid a one million euro buyout fee to Valencia. Previously, Martinez coached Valencia to a EuroLeague Final Four appearance and domestic titles, following stints at clubs including Salamanca, Granada, Tenerife, Girona, and Seville. This marks his first tenure at one of the country's two major basketball powerhouses.
