European Commission releases evaluation report on the EU Animal Health Law

On Monday, the European Commission released an evaluation report regarding the implementation of the EU Animal Health Law. The report follows a consultation process involving 22 member states, including Cyprus. Cyprus participated by engaging with stakeholders through targeted surveys, interviews, focus groups, and validation workshops. The Commission stated that the law has successfully provided a framework for risk-based preventive health measures across the European Union. These efforts aim to mitigate the negative impacts of animal diseases on public health, rural economies, and international trade. While the report highlights positive outcomes in disease control, it also identifies areas for necessary improvement. Key recommendations include ensuring more uniform application of rules across all member states and developing a more flexible regulatory system. Maintaining high health standards is cited as a significant factor in the EU's position as a leading global exporter of agricultural products.
