Trial continues regarding evidence collection in the Saint Avvakum Monastery case

The Nicosia Permanent Criminal Court held a session on Monday concerning the financial scandal at the Saint Avvakum Monastery. Police officer P.E., the first prosecution witness, underwent cross-examination regarding photographic evidence collected on March 9 and March 13, 2024. The witness testified that he photographed objects and cash at the Tamasos Metropolis and the monastery under the guidance of other police officers. During the questioning by defense attorney Kostis Efstathiou, representing monk Nektarios, the witness stated he could not recall specific details regarding the placement or movement of items before they were photographed. He noted that other individuals were responsible for recording the objects in a logbook. The defense raised concerns about the integrity of the evidence, specifically questioning the documentation process involving two safes. The court proceedings focused on the procedural circumstances under which the photographic material was compiled.
