Police investigation launched after youth set fire to tires in Limassol

On Monday night, around 10:25 PM, a group of approximately ten hooded individuals set fire to a pile of tires in the middle of a roundabout on Kolonakiou Street in Yermasoyia, Limassol. Witnesses observed the youths dousing the tires with flammable liquid before igniting them. Local authorities were alerted immediately, and police patrols were dispatched to the scene. Upon seeing the police, the suspects fled in different directions, leading to a pursuit through the surrounding streets. The Fire Service arrived to extinguish the flames and ensure the safety of motorists. As of now, the police have not reported any arrests, but investigations to identify the perpetrators are ongoing. Assistant Police Director of Limassol, Lefteris Kyriakou, confirmed that all possible motives, including potential links to hooliganism or other youth delinquency, are being examined under the department's existing operational plan to combat juvenile crime.
