Severe weather conditions cause multiple fatalities across China
Severe storms and strong winds caused at least eight deaths in Hubei province, particularly affecting the cities of Huangshi and Huanggang on Monday. State media outlet CCTV reported that these casualties resulted from extreme vertical air temperature differences, with one person still missing. Separately, in the southern Guangxi region, the impact of typhoon Maysak led to heavy rains, landslides, and two additional deaths. Authorities in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi, raised flood alerts to the highest level following reports of damage to local dams. As of Monday evening, at least 48,000 residents were evacuated from their homes due to the flooding. Rescue operations remain ongoing, and officials are currently verifying the full extent of the property damage. Scientists have noted an increase in the frequency and intensity of such extreme weather events in the country.
