Police operation in Polis Chrysochous to transport a man for mandatory psychiatric treatment

On Monday, July 6, authorities in Polis Chrysochous conducted an operation to transport a 31-year-old foreign national to the Athalassa Psychiatric Hospital. A court order for mandatory hospitalization had been issued following a request by his relatives. When police arrived at his residence to execute the order, the man resisted and locked himself in a room while armed with a knife. Some reports indicated he was threatening relatives present at the home, while others described him as simply refusing to cooperate. Police deployed a negotiator, but after hours of unsuccessful attempts to resolve the situation peacefully, the MMAD special unit was called in. The special unit entered the premises late at night and disarmed the man without further incident. No injuries were reported during the intervention. The man was subsequently transferred to Nicosia for his mandatory psychiatric care.
