Cyprus Labour Inspection Department issues warning on swimming pool chemical safety
The Cyprus Labour Inspection Department has issued a safety warning regarding the handling and storage of pool chemicals during the summer season. Improper use or the accidental mixing of chlorine-based disinfectants with acids or ammonia-based products can trigger the release of toxic gases, including chlorine gas. Such exposure poses significant health risks, including severe respiratory, eye, and skin irritation, with high concentrations potentially proving fatal. The department emphasizes that all chemical products must comply with the EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation. Employers at facilities such as hotels are urged to adhere to occupational safety and health legislation strictly. Users and workers are advised to read safety data sheets and product labels carefully before use to prevent dangerous chemical reactions.
