Cyprus hosts World Aquatics Day events and competes in European Junior Swimming Championships
On July 8 and 9, 2026, the Larnaca Olympic swimming pool will host the World Aquatics Day event. The competition involves 384 children aged between nine and 12, representing ten different nautical clubs across Cyprus, with the largest contingents coming from Famagusta North Coast, Larnaca, and Limassol. Athletes will participate in individual freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly races, as well as relays starting at 6:30 PM. Concurrently, the 52nd European Junior Swimming Championships are taking place in Munich from July 7 to 12, 2026, featuring 599 athletes from 45 countries. Cyprus is represented at the Munich event by Gabriella Lympouri and Markus Andriu Lagoutis, accompanied by coach Nikolas Stylianou. The Cyprus Swimming Federation confirmed that both local and international events are supported by sponsors Allwyn and Arena Greece. The local event focuses on pre-competitive development, while the Munich championship serves as a key qualification stage for the European Aquatics Championships in Paris.
