Lawyer files lawsuit against Meta in Limassol district court
Cypriot lawyer Petros Papadopoulos has filed lawsuit number 717/2026 against Meta Platforms Ireland Limited in the Limassol District Court. The plaintiff challenges Meta's policies regarding the prohibition of political and electoral advertisements within the European Union. Furthermore, the legal action contests the company's algorithmic content ranking systems, which the lawyer argues restrict the visibility of political viewpoints. Papadopoulos, who is active in the public and political sphere and plans to participate in future elections, claims these practices limit his ability to communicate with the public. The lawsuit highlights a perceived lack of transparency regarding how algorithms suppress or amplify content. It seeks to address the cumulative effect of ad bans and algorithmic filtering on modern political discourse. Meta has not yet issued a detailed response regarding the specific allegations contained in the court filings.
