President Christodoulides addresses hospital staffing concerns
President Nikos Christodoulides dismissed allegations on Tuesday that the government has broken promises regarding the Athalassa psychiatric hospital. The Pasydy trade union recently reported severe staff shortages and overcrowding, noting that some wards are operating at 150 percent of their capacity, which they claim jeopardizes patient and staff safety. In response, the President stated that the government is working to address systemic challenges within the hospital network. He announced a meeting with the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) scheduled for 4:00 PM the same day. During this meeting, officials are expected to discuss broader planning and upcoming investments in public hospitals. The government has committed to investments exceeding 126 million euros. The President maintained that no previous promises regarding the Athalassa facility have been neglected.
