28-year-old arrested at Larnaca airport for drug smuggling
Police officers and customs officials intercepted a 28-year-old man at Larnaca Airport yesterday shortly before 7:00 p.m. following a tip-off from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN). The man, who had arrived in Cyprus from abroad, admitted during interrogation that he was carrying narcotics inside his body. He was taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where medical examinations confirmed the presence of numerous foreign objects. The suspect remains under police guard at the hospital while undergoing treatment. So far, he has excreted six egg-shaped packages containing approximately 60 grams of cocaine. A local court has issued an eight-day detention order against the suspect as the investigation by the Larnaca drug unit continues.
