28-year-old man arrested for cocaine smuggling at Larnaca airport
A 28-year-old man was arrested at Larnaca airport on Monday evening after attempting to smuggle approximately 60 grams of cocaine into Cyprus. The suspect was intercepted by the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) and customs officials shortly before 7 pm upon his arrival from abroad. Following questioning, he admitted to transporting the drugs internally. Medical examinations at Larnaca General Hospital confirmed the presence of foreign objects within his body, and he was admitted for observation. To date, the suspect has expelled six egg-shaped packages containing the narcotics. On Tuesday, the Larnaca district court issued an eight-day remand order to facilitate the ongoing police investigation. The man remains hospitalized under police guard as authorities investigate the possibility of additional packages.
