Regulations and designated dog-friendly beaches in Cyprus

Since 2020, legislation in Cyprus allows dog owners to take their pets to specific beaches, excluding those protected under the NATURA 2000 network or organized municipal beaches. The ban on swimming with dogs at NATURA 2000 sites is in effect year-round. Authorized dog-friendly beaches include Steratzia in Kato Pyrgos, Kassianes in Larnaca, Glyky Nero in Paralimni, Acheria and Pitili in Paphos, and Karavopetra and Prolimnos in Limassol. Dog owners must strictly adhere to the Dog Law, which mandates using only designated fenced and signposted areas. Owners are required to carry the dog's ownership license and health booklet at all times. Additionally, dogs must be kept on a leash whenever they are outside the water to ensure the safety of other visitors and animals. Failure to follow these rules may result in non-compliance with the established municipal regulations.
