Cyprus Ministry of Labor inspectors identify 39 unregistered employees in April
During April, the Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance conducted inspections across 156 premises in Cyprus, including 147 employers and 9 self-employed individuals. Among the 434 male employees checked, officials found 142 Greek Cypriots, 110 EU citizens, 4 Turkish Cypriots, and 178 third-country nationals. The operation resulted in the discovery of 39 unregistered employees. Authorities issued 16 administrative fines totaling 88,200 euros. Under current legislation, an unregistered employee incurs a base fine of 1,000 euros for the month of the violation, which increases by 500 euros for every subsequent month up to six months. Repeat offenses within a two-year period trigger increased fines of 2,000 euros for a second violation and 3,000 euros for a third or subsequent violation. The ministry stated the campaign aimed to raise awareness regarding the legal consequences of non-compliance with labor regulations.
