Anti-Corruption Authority investigates the black van surveillance case
The Independent Authority against Corruption in Cyprus is initiating an investigation into the so-called black van case involving Israeli businessmen Avraam Shahak Avni and Tal Dilian. This development follows reports that evidence compiled over six years, from 2016 to 2022, will be utilized by investigators. The investigation is tied to the publication of the book "Cyprus, the Hub of Surveillance" on June 24, which details the activities of Avni and Dilian on the island. The book also explores alleged indirect connections between surveillance companies and various political figures. It is expected that the author of the book will be called to testify before the authority. The inquiry aims to re-examine the surveillance affair, which previously saw the suspension of prosecutions. The Anti-Corruption Authority is currently verifying that no parallel investigations into this matter are ongoing before proceeding.
