Deputy Mayor of Mesa Geitonia criticizes Limassol Mayor over administrative disputes
Marios Protopapas, the Deputy Mayor of the Mesa Geitonia municipal district, has sent a formal letter of complaint to Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis. The correspondence, which has also been shared with the Minister of the Interior, alleges that the Mayor has marginalized the role of the Deputy Mayor. Protopapas asserts that he is being bypassed in institutional procedures and is not being granted the necessary facilities to perform his duties. Specifically, he reports that the Mayor's office remains locked when he assumes acting duties during the Mayor's absence, and no suitable workspace is provided. Furthermore, Protopapas claims he is frequently excluded from representing the municipality at official events. He argues that these actions undermine the authority of the Deputy Mayor's office, which he maintains is a critical component of local governance. Protopapas is formally requesting that Armeftis reconsider his current administrative practices to ensure institutional order. The dispute highlights ongoing tensions regarding the division of power and resource allocation within the Limassol municipal administration.
