Cyprus Youth Organization board remains vacant since February
The Cyprus Youth Organization (ONEK) has been without a Board of Directors since February, following the resignation of its members. The government is currently waiting for the Democratic Rally (DISY) to submit its proposed nominees to finalize the appointments. Other political parties have already submitted their representatives from their respective youth organizations. The Board consists of a president, a vice-president, and five members representing parliamentary parties, alongside two government appointees, all serving three-year terms. During a parliamentary Education Committee meeting, deputies Dimos Georgiadis from DISY and Sotiris Ioannou from ELAM raised concerns regarding the organizational paralysis and ongoing serious complaints. The lack of a board has led to pending approvals for critical projects, including contracts for youth services. Notably, a contract with the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) was temporarily extended through July to prevent the suspension of summer programs, though further long-term decisions remain frozen.
