Cyprus Minister of Education outlines upcoming legislative and school infrastructure goals
Cyprus Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athena Michaelidou, announced that three new bills will be submitted to Parliament this autumn. These bills concern special education, the teacher appointment system, and the institutionalization of sports and music schools. Regarding school infrastructure, the Minister stated that the installation of air conditioning in kindergartens is complete, with work ongoing for primary schools. The Ministry aims to ensure the safe operation of air conditioning units in middle and high schools by September, with a broader goal of equipping all schools. Furthermore, discussions with educational organizations regarding the registry of appointees are expected to conclude by the end of July. Michaelidou noted that while dialogue is ongoing, not all proposed solutions will satisfy every stakeholder. During the meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Education, the Minister emphasized the government's commitment to reforming the public education system and promoting inclusive education.
