Fire service manages multiple incidents across Cyprus
On July 15 and 16, 2026, the Cyprus Fire Service responded to 28 calls, including 11 fires and 16 special service requests. In Deryneia and Livadia, Larnaca, fires broke out at 11:37 and 11:27 respectively, likely caused by ignition of waste materials; both were contained. In Protaras, a fire started at 14:30 on a balcony of a second-floor apartment, damaging two units and a neighboring balcony. A neighbor assisted residents, and an off-duty firefighter and police officer evacuated a paraplegic resident. Another fire at 16:50 between Chrysochous and Polis in Paphos burned eight decares of reeds and vegetation, requiring aerial support from aircraft and helicopters to protect nearby homes. Authorities are investigating the causes of all incidents.
