DISY political bureau holds meeting to evaluate election results and discuss the Cyprus issue

The political bureau of the Democratic Rally (DISY) held a meeting on Thursday to evaluate the results of recent parliamentary elections. During the session, party president Annita Demetriou briefed members on the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue, emphasizing that it remains the party's top priority. The bureau unanimously welcomed the upcoming visit of the UN Secretary-General to Cyprus and the appointment of the European envoy for the Cyprus issue, reaffirming their support for efforts to resume negotiations. Party officials, including deputy president Efthymios Diplaros, presented an analysis of electoral outcomes, with the leadership confirming a positive assessment. To strengthen the party's structure, 15 to 17 former parliamentary candidates have been appointed to the expanded political bureau as part of an ongoing reorganization. While reports of internal disagreements regarding the 2028 presidential elections have circulated, party leadership has stated that such discussions are not currently on the agenda. One candidate reportedly declined a position within the new shadow cabinet. The party plans to continue focusing on political work and internal unity while monitoring the national question.
