Record rainfall recorded in Cyprus during early July 2026
On July 7, 2026, the village of Agros in Cyprus experienced an extremely rare and historic rainfall event. The conventional meteorological station recorded 98.1 mm of rain, marking a record for July since 1976. Additionally, the automatic station measured 100.3 mm of precipitation within only 2 hours and 38 minutes. According to the Department of Meteorology, overall rainfall in the free areas of Cyprus reached 200% of the monthly average by July 8, totaling 5.2 mm. Several stations, including Athalassa, Pano Panagia, Stavros tis Psokas, Prodromos, Platania, Kellaki, and Lythrodontas, exceeded their monthly averages. Platania recorded the highest absolute amount at 37.1 mm, followed by Prodromos at 30.5 mm. Cumulatively, from October 1, 2025, to July 8, 2026, the average rainfall in the free areas reached 116% of the normal level, totaling 576.9 mm.
