Expired testing kits reported in colon cancer screening program

Citizens aged 50 to 70 participating in the Ministry of Health's colon cancer screening program have reported receiving expired test kits via mail. While Ministry official Anna Dimitriou stated the kits sent in late May were labeled with an expiration date of June 30, 2026, some recipients reported receiving them after or close to the expiration date. The confusion has led to concerns regarding the reliability and objectivity of the medical results among participants. Dimitris Lamprinidis, spokesperson for the Federation of Patients' Associations of Cyprus (OSAK), urged the Ministry to improve distribution logistics and ensure longer shelf life for future supplies to avoid discouraging citizens from testing. The Ministry of Health has acknowledged the issue and requested that affected individuals contact them directly for guidance. The national screening program is currently concluding due to high summer temperatures. Doctors have also been consulted by concerned patients regarding the safety and accuracy of utilizing the materials.
