Larnaca mayor meets with residents to discuss port-related grievances

On Wednesday afternoon, Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras held an open meeting with local residents at the Larnaca port departure hall to address community concerns. The discussion, attended by municipal council members and staff, focused on issues such as dust pollution, cleanliness, and abandoned buildings in the area. Residents expressed significant concern regarding dust generated by the loading and unloading of gypsum and animal feed. Reports from medical professionals were cited, suggesting an increase in respiratory issues among residents in the vicinity of the port. Mayor Vyras acknowledged that conditions in the area have deteriorated in recent years and confirmed that the Municipality has raised these issues with the Cyprus Ports Authority and the relevant Minister. The administration is currently seeking solutions for these persistent problems. Efforts are being coordinated until necessary infrastructure is completed at the Vasiliko port.
