Kremlin comments on energy infrastructure, nuclear policies, and Olympic status
The Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, called for Turkey and other nations to use their influence to prevent Ukrainian attacks on energy infrastructure following an alleged strike on Gazprom's Krasnodarskaya gas pumping station, which serves the Blue Stream pipeline to Turkey. Russia stated it is taking measures to mitigate risks from such incidents. Additionally, Peskov warned that Lithuania would not gain security by seeking to lift bans on nuclear weapons deployment. Finland, which shares a 1,340-kilometer border with Russia, announced legislative amendments in March regarding nuclear weapons to align with NATO's deterrence policy, potentially allowing for nuclear deployments during wartime. Furthermore, Peskov noted that the International Olympic Committee's decision to lift the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee is a significant step toward restoring rights for Russian athletes. The reports reflect ongoing geopolitical tensions between Russia, its neighbors, and international institutions.
