Escalating tensions between Iran and the United States in the Strait of Hormuz

Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have intensified following recent military exchanges between the United States and Iran. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of the Iranian parliament, stated that the strait will only reopen under Iranian terms, rejecting what he described as American intimidation. Meanwhile, US authorities have reimposed economic sanctions on Iranian oil, citing attacks on three ships in the region within the last 24 hours. Mohsen Rezai, an advisor to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, claimed the US is attempting to establish alternative shipping routes to bypass the strait. Separately, Iran has denied allegations from Qatar regarding an attack on a Qatari liquefied natural gas tanker, labeling the accusations unacceptable. Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dismissed the Qatari charges as contrary to the principles of good neighborliness. Qatar has summoned the Iranian chargé d'affaires to protest the incident. Both nations continue to exchange threats as the diplomatic situation deteriorates.
