Violent brawl in Xylofagou involving foreign nationals
On the evening of Wednesday, July 8, a violent confrontation involving approximately 15 to 20 foreign nationals occurred in the center of Xylofagou. According to police and witness reports, the participants, identified by local sources as individuals of Syrian and Arab origin, were armed with crowbars, hammers, stones, and knives. During the clash, a vehicle reportedly attempted to run into a group of people before crashing into a building. The participants fled the scene on foot before authorities arrived, leaving behind various items, including mobile phones, bags, and the abandoned vehicle. Famagusta Police have since arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the incident, and investigations are ongoing to identify other participants. No official information regarding injuries has been released, though the scene resulted in significant property damage. The community leader, Giorgos Ioulianos, attributed the unrest to financial disputes among the groups involved.
