Recent fire incidents in Aspropyrgos and Sismanogleio hospital

On July 9, a large fire broke out at an auto parts factory in Aspropyrgos at the intersection of Megaridos and Chiou streets, injuring eight people, three of whom are intubated. Authorities deployed 75 firefighters, 20 vehicles, and an air helicopter, while a 112 emergency message ordered the evacuation of the surrounding area. There is ongoing concern regarding a truck containing a propane tank inside the facility. Separately, a fire occurred at the Sismanogleio Hospital in Athens around 05:00 in a room of the First Pathology Clinic, resulting in the destruction of the ward. While initial reports mentioned a 74-year-old man arrested for an accidental fire caused by a cigarette, later statements from the Minister of Health indicated the incident may have been a criminal act involving a mattress fire. A 90-year-old patient passed away from cardiac arrest during the evacuation process. Both incidents are currently under investigation by respective authorities.
