LGBTQ+ activist Paola Revenioti dies at age 68
Paola Revenioti, a prominent figure in the Greek LGBTQ+ movement, has died at age 68 following a long battle with cancer. She passed away at Sismanogleio Hospital. Born in 1958 in Piraeus and raised in Keratsini, she was expelled from the Naval Petty Officers School in Poros at a young age. Revenioti was a long-time activist who campaigned against social marginalization and police violence. She published the magazine Kraximo, authored the poetry collection Saltarisma, and produced several documentaries. Her political career included running for office with the Ecologist-Alternatives in 1990 and later with MeRA25 in 2019, 2023, and 2024. She also served as the first president of the Trans Solidarity Association of Greece. While sources differ slightly on her birth year and exact political candidacy timeline, it is widely recognized that she was a pioneering trans candidate in national elections.
