Moroccan Football Federation president discusses Lamine Yamal's choice

Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, commented on Lamine Yamal's decision to represent the Spanish national team. In a documentary titled 'Inside: The Rise of Moroccan Football' by the French magazine Onze Mondial, Lekjaa expressed doubt regarding the Spanish heritage of the name Yamal. He stated that he did not recognize any historical precedent for a player named Yamal in the Spanish national team. Lekjaa revealed that he personally met with the player's parents in both Spain and Morocco to persuade him to play for the Moroccan team. Despite these efforts, the Barcelona forward chose to play for Spain. The documentary also highlights Morocco's investments in football, which have significantly improved the competitiveness of its national squad. Lekjaa affirmed that the federation respects Yamal's final choice.
