Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler dies at 75
Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, has died at the age of 75 in a Portuguese hospital. Reports indicate she had been suffering from a serious illness and underwent intestinal surgery in Faro at the end of April. Following the operation, she was placed in an induced coma in May before reportedly coming out of it while remaining in critical condition. Tyler was a prominent pop and rock figure with a five-decade career, best known for the 1980s hits "Total Eclipse of the Heart," "Holding Out for a Hero," and "It’s a Heartache." She represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 and received an MBE in 2023 for her contributions to music. Throughout her career, she received three Grammy nominations and achieved significant commercial success. Her family confirmed the death, which follows a period of medical treatment in Portugal that included an appearance in Cyprus in 2024.
